Haleakala National Park Maui

The Northshore Hostel Maui Location

We are located in Wailuku, Maui's seat of government. The name Wailuku is translated as 'water of destruction'. The historic Iao valley is the backdrop to our village and the I'ao River, which emanates therefrom, is considered one of the sacred water sources of Maui. It is here one of the most famous military battles in Hawaiian history took place, and the river was said to run red with the blood of fallen warriors. At the head of Iao Valley is a natural amphitheater, the caldera of the original volcano that formed Maui. Mark Twain called Iao "The Yosemite of the Pacific". Wailuku in many ways is the heart and soul of Maui. There are many unique Art Deco buildings in town as well as old Hawaiiana style architecture. Wailuku is very busy during the day and is quiet at night. Today Wailuku is enjoying a renaissance as many small businesses and entrepreneurs are revitalizing our town joining together with our established local businesses...our Hostel is one of those contributors. We hope you come and experience Maui with us.
